Teaching SRE with Confidence in Secondary Schools is a comprehensive and inclusive resource for teachers and other professionals working in a secondary school setting.

The CD provides a spiral curriculum for SRE; each scheme of work has a set of 3 interconnected lesson plans together with hyperlinked resources and suggestions for additional activities. This resource covers the statutory and non-statutory aspects of SRE in a way that engages young people and adults.

The programme combines sexual health information with the challenges of responsibility, relationships and choice. Students are encouraged to consider how they can be happy, healthy and safe both physically and emotionally.

Teaching SRE with Confidence in Primary Schools

Teaching SRE with Confidence in Secondary Schools

I first came across the Christopher Winter Project when researching resources and schemes of work for a SRE overhaul at our special needs school. As with all schools our students mature at different rates but our range from age seven until sixteen encompasses many, many levels and abilities to process information and apply it themselves. We also need to revisit and reinforce many times and these excellent CD ROMs enabled my staff to do this using the framework of the schemes of work.

The lesson plans include a wide range of teaching styles which are perfect for our individual learning style and enable us to mix and match according to the pupils’ needs.

Although there is a wealth of resources available on the internet it is a very valuable time saver to have them all there in one place. The diagrams are very clear and the photographs encompass a wide range of ethnic groups.

These resources provide a starting point for less confident teachers and an additional resource for others. The assessment and evaluation ideas are easily adapted and modified and offer clear, accessible guidance to new and established teachers alike.
